Dennis Josef Renyi Obituary
On November 6th, 2023, Dennis Josef Renyi, 72, of Boynton Beach, FL, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Deborah, two children, Allison and Michael, granddaughter, Heeli Ruti, sister, Linda and her partner, Bonnie, daughter-in-law, Lin, and loving dog, Ted.
Dennis was born on September 6th, 1951, in Brooklyn, NY, to parents, Stephen and Dorothy. He received his undergraduate degree from Bryant College and MBA in finance from St. John’s University. Growing up, he was an avid sports and history fan and amongst his passions were his season tickets to the NY Rangers and cheering on the Brooklyn Dodgers and later, the NY Mets.
In 1989 he moved from the Northeast to Atlanta Ga, where he would live for the next 28 years. There, his love of Judaism flourished, and he became a long-time member of Congregation Etz Chaim. His Jewish values, which were shaped by his parents, were always present in his life and in which he passed down to his children.
In 1998 Dennis married Deborah Chasin, whom he loved deeply. Dennis was an amazing husband of 25 years. The two were inseparable and amongst their hobbies were pickleball, cruises and their frequent vacations to Cancun and Tel Aviv. His two children, Allison and Michael called their dad a superhero and even as adults still saw him that way.
In 2016, Dennis retired from a 40-year career with the Internal Revenue Service. The following year he lived out his dream and relocated from Atlanta to Boynton Beach, FL, where he and Deborah enjoyed the remaining years of his life. There he was involved in the community, both active within Temple Shaarei Shalom, board member of his village and fierce competitor on the pickleball and racquetball court. His ultimate joy came late in his life with the arrival of his granddaughter, Heeli Ruti, who he commonly referred to as “the love of his life”.
For the people who knew Dennis, he was liked by all; a true mensh. There wasn’t a person whom he couldn’t start up a conversation with and no matter the topic, always found a way to show off his quick wit and “NY sense of humor”. Despite a long and hard-fought battle with kidney cancer, he never complained and managed his illness with strength and positivity. He treasured each day and wanted to spend as much time with his loved ones as possible. He will be greatly missed.
The funeral will be held on Friday, November 10th, 2023, 11 am at South Florida Jewish Cemetery: 6081 S. Congress Ave, Lake Worth, Florida, 33462
Donations in his memory, can be made to Temple Shaarei Shalom: 9085 Hagen Ranch Rd, Boynton Beach, FL, 33472.
