He was predeceased by: his parents, Albert F. and Mary D. McDonald (Regan); and his brothers, Albert F. McDonald and Thomas M. McDonald. He is survived by: his wife Margaret M. Hartnett; his daughters, Maureen A. Connick (Henry) of Annapolis, MD, Eileen M. Cunius of Olney, MD and Coleen M. Thompson (Thomas) of Ft. Myers, FL; and his brother Robert A. McDonald of Laurel, MD. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren.
