He was predeceased by: his parents, Benjamin Franklin and Lona Elam (Howard); his spouse Shirley L. (Bradley); his daughters, Billie Jo Pawlik and Pamela Joy Cowen; and his siblings, Charles, Jack, Bill Elam and Catherine Elam.
He is survived by: his children, Susan Heath of Bonita Springs, FL and Joseph Elam Jr. (Valerie) of Bonita Springs, FL; his grandchildren, Josie Smith, Nikki Conley, Tina Mejia, Raymond Cowen, Raynae Cowen, Brandy Elam, Joseph Elam III, Rachel Rider, Ethan Conley, Tanner Mejia, Layla Mejia, Raymond Cowen III, Cooper Cowen, Gracen Cowen, Spencer Berg, Pamela Berg, Jackson, Brayden Elam, Marianna Elam, Emilio Elam, Olivia Elam, Micah Elam and Lennox Elam; and his great great grandchildren, Emma Rider, Virginia Rider and Margaret Rider.
