He was predeceased by: his parents, Harry and Irene (Navin); his son Stephen Simmons; and his brother Thomas Simmons. He is survived by: his wife Maggie Simmons of Bonita Springs; and his children, Geoff Miller (Kathryn) of Rogers, AR, Molly Miller (John Pino) of Andover, MA, Joseph Simmons of Grand Rapids, MI, J. Scott Simmons of Holiday, FL and Karyn Sampson (Dan) of Rockford, MI..
