He was predeceased by: his parents, Barney Helms and Juddie Helms; his wife Bertha Helms; his son Billy Helms; and his siblings, Doris Tucker, Betty Meyer, Robert Helms and Mack Helms.
He is survived by: his children, Wally Ray Helms (Wendy) of Wauchula, Leta Short (Russell) of Winter Haven and Cindy Richman (Rob) of Palm Bay; his daughter-in-law Carole Helms; his brother Rex Helms (Diane) of Fort Meade; and his grandchildren, Austin, Leigh-Anne, Tyler, Cody, Destiny, Adina, Brock, Moriah, Lacey Marie, Kaila, Hope and Lindy. He is also survived by 15 great grandchildren.
