He was predeceased by: his parents, Vernice Everett and Luna Nelson (Cason); and his siblings, Edwin Nelson, Tillman Watson and Tiny Bond.

He is survived by: his wife Jane Nelson; his children, Kim Farabee (Robert) and Kevin Nelson (Stephanie); and his siblings, Martha Jean Beckham, Leon Watson and Nelda Sue Phillips. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren and 3 great grandchild; many nieces and nephews.
