He was predeceased by: his parents, William Story and Myrtle Story; his granddaughters, Natalie and Cassandra; his brothers, Donald Story, Charles Story and Herbert Story; and his former wife Patricia Story.

He is survived by: his wife Barbara Story; his children, Michael Story (Ginger) and Paula Knoop (James); his stepdaughters, Lori Clark (Jack) and Victoria Stambone; his siblings, Bettie Carazzi and Jack Story; and his grandchildren, Collin Story, Caleb Story, Claire Story, Andrew Hooper Jr., Robert Hooper, Zachary Hooper, James Knoop Jr., Jordan Knoop and Jeffery Knoop.

Donations in Melvin's memory may be made to Good Shepherd Hospice in Auburndale.
