He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles Russell and Eula Russell; his siblings, Phillip Russell and Carol Rakes; and his son Evan Russell.

He is survived by: his wife Sue Ellen Russell; his sons, James Russell and Mike Brinkley (Kirsten); his brothers, Eddie Russell and Clark "Duck" Russell; and his grandchildren, James, Peyton and Rhett.
