Robert J. Hamilton Obituary
Robert J. "Bob" Hamilton, age 84, of Wilmington, DE, passed away on March 26, 2024.
Born in Neptune, NJ in 1939, Bob was one of four children born to the late Dr. George M. and Mary (Cashman) Hamilton. Bob grew up in Lake Mohawk, NJ, but moved to Asbury Park for his senior year of high school. He was a member of the Asbury Park High School graduating Class of 1958. After graduating from high school, Bob relocated to Somers Point, NJ and this is where he met his wife, Marilyn. They married in Somers Point in 1964 and together they had two children, Robert and Sandra. Bob was employed with the General Motors Acceptance Corporation as a manager for 39 years.
In his retirement, Bob was a member of Hartefeld National Golf Club in Avondale, PA, where he played golf 6 days a week for over 20 years. He was also an avid Philly sports fan, always rooting for the Eagles and Phillies. Most of all, Bob enjoyed supporting his grandchildren in all of their many activities and sporting events over the years. Every year for Christmas, Bob gave each of the grandchildren the latest Hess truck; memories they will forever cherish.
Bob is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Marilyn "Lynn" Hamilton; his son, Robert (Kathy) Hamilton; his daughter, Sandra (Jim) Maddox; his six grandchildren, Grace Hamilton, Sean Hamilton, Conner Malley, James Maddox, Anna Maddox, and Brooke Maddox; his sister, Patricia (Steve) Gazsi; his brothers, Michael Hamilton and Thomas (Cheri) Hamilton; his sister-in-law, Heather Seiver; his brother-in-law, Raymond Schoenleber; and many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to visit on Tuesday, April 9th, 2024 from 4PM-5PM at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Rd., Wilmington, DE 19808. A funeral service will begin at 5PM. Interment will be held privately for the family in All Saints Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to be made to Bayada Hospice, 4250 Lancaster Pike, Suite 308, Wilmington, DE 19805.
