He was predeceased by: his parents, Cecil Ellis and Rose Ellis (Donahue); his brother James Ellis; and his stepson Brian Sturgeon. He is survived by: his siblings, Robert (Susan), John (Lydia), Joseph (Diane), Rose Patricia McNeal and Mary Weatherlow; his sons, Michael, Gregory, Patrick (Trisha), Sean, Douglas (Maryanne) and Christoper (Michelle); his grandchildren, Morgan, Marissa, Scott, Melissa (John), Gregory, Jr., Jeremiah (Sarah), David, Nicholas, Joshua, Nathanyel, Connor, Elijah, Atticus and Natalie; and his great grandchildren, Daphne, John, Abrianna and Bryson. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
