He was predeceased by: his parents, Clarence Mays and Hazel Mays; his son Joseph Mays; his brothers, Ronnie and Gordie; and his mother-in-law Elsie.

He is survived by: his wife Susanna Mays; his sons, Michael Mays (Adele), Dean Mays (Cindy) and Barry Mays Jr.; his grandchildren, Anna, Emily, Becca, Taylor and Abbie; his great grandchildren, Stephen and Parker; and his pet Kayden.
