It is with great sadness that we announce the death of T. Blake Bowers (retired) (Smyrna, Delaware), born in Dover, Delaware, who passed away on January 2, 2023, at the age of 63, leaving to mourn family and friends. MAJ T. Blake Bowers (retired) was born on February 21, 1959 in Dover, DE. On January 2nd, 2023, he graduated from this life, to Heaven while at his home, in Smyrna, DE. Blake was a longtime committed resident of Smyrna. He was a Life Member of the Citizen’s Hose Company No. 1, and VFW post 8801, and member of the American Legion post 14, and member of the Evangelical Association. Blake was proud to serve in the U.S. Army for 22 years as a Chaplain, receiving many medals and awards. After retiring from the Army in 2009 as a Major, he continued to spread his knowledge and faith as Chaplain at DHCI (Delaware Hospital for the Chronically Ill) in Smyrna for 5 years and Bayhealth Hospital in Dover for 5 years and serving his community by following in his father’s footsteps as a dedicated member of the Delaware State Fire Police. Blake was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren long rides on his motorcycle, reading on the beach, watching football and Summers spent at their camper on Tuckahoe Acres, along the Indian Bay River. Blake is survived by his wife Debbie, daughter Ashley (Tony), sons Thomas (Gennifer), Jonathan (Brittany), stepdaughter Nicole (Mike), and stepson Michael (Kristen). Blake’s greatest joys in life were his grandchildren Nathaniel, Parker, Mason, Bryce, Hunter, and Madelyn. He is also survived by his mother Ruth, his siblings Kim (Dave), Jeff (Wanda), and Gordon. He was preceded in death by his father Tom Bowers and his grandsons Brooks and Kellan. Services for Blake will be held at Trader Funeral Home, 12 Lotus St, Dover, DE. on Wed. Jan. 11 at 11 AM, family and friends may call 1 hour before the time of service. Following services, family and friends are invited to gather to honor and celebrate Blake’s life at the American Legion Post 14, Glenwood Ave, Smyrna, DE. A private interment will take place at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro, DE. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to VFW National Children’s Home, 3573 S. Wavelet Rd, Eaton Rapids, MI 48827 or Citizen’s Hose Company No. 1, P.O. Box 97, Smyrna, DE 19977 in memory of Blake Bowers. Letters of condolences may be sent to http://www.traderfh.com
