Roger Lee Gilman Obituary

Roger Lee Gilman, age 76, of Smyrna, Delaware, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 16, 2022. He was born in Radford, Virginia on March 18, 1945 to his late parents, Robert and Mae Gilman. Roger attended Radford High School. Along with his parents, he moved to Delaware in 1964.

Roger was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease at 51 years old, spending the rest of his life courageously fighting the disease. He retired on disability from the Smyrna Home and Hospital in 1996.

Roger acquired an interest in cars at an early age and became a self-taught, talented automobile mechanic. He was a muscle car enthusiast who restored cars from the 1950's, 1960's, and 1970's, especially his favorite, the Chevy Nova. He enjoyed attending races and liked to get behind a wheel and drag race. He loved visiting muscle car shows and watching NASCAR races on TV. Roger also enjoyed rock, country, and blue grass music, watching NFL football games; he was an avid Green Bay Packers fan.

Before becoming disabled, Roger's happy times were spent hanging out with friends in his garage. He was thankful for his many good friends and family who helped him during his struggles with Parkinson's disease.

Roger was a loving father and had a big caring heart, never turning away those he thought were in need, a free vehicle repair or a place to live. His favorite bible verse was John 3:16.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister Nancy Stroup. He is survived by his children, his daughter Kimberly (Gilman) Magee and son-in-law Warren Magee of Seaford, Delaware, his son Clayton Wayne Gilman of Smyrna, Delaware, grandchildren Ja'Kai Magee, Ja'Cari Magee, and Tierra, his siter Bonnie Yeomans, a nephew and nieces.
