He was predeceased by: his parents, Frieda Louise Mills and Brooks; his sister Ruth Ann Nichols; and his brother-in-law Jim Nichols. He is survived by: his wife Phyllis Ann Mills (Caruso); his sons, Matthew James Mills (Jerry Harold), Mark Mills (Jane) and Michael Mills (Kathy); his grandchildren, Dominick Mills (Amanda), Ethan and Emily Mills (Jack); and his siblings, R. T. Mills, Jr. and Diane Murphy (James).
