He was predeceased by: his former wife Jeanette Riccio Smythe; his children, Donna Smythe and David Smythe; and his stepdaughter Michelle Matruder. He is survived by: his wife Ruth Matruder Smythe; his daughter Elaine Smythe; his stepchildren, Kim Roop (Jay) and Mark Matruder (Danielle); and his grandchildren, Connor Crompton, Alexa Smythe Viola, AJ Roop (Meghan), Meghan Roop Reynolds (Greg), Amanda Matruder, Ryan Matruder and Lindsey Matruder Pease (Gavin). He is also survived by extended family including 5 adult children, 7 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren with a granddaughter.
