He was predeceased by: his mother Caroline Stevens Atwell; his wife Beatrice Atwell; and his sisters, Edna, Catherine and Thelma.
He is survived by: his children, Dwight Atwell (Lora), Annette Schellinger (Jeff), Diana Atwell, Joyce Nelson (Rich), Linda Lewis, Lana Samson (Mike), Beverly Henderson, Leon Henderson, Jr. (Karen) and Bayard Henderson (Theresa). He is also survived by 19 grandchildren, many great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
