She was predeceased by: her parents, Daniel Richard Black and Anna Marie Black; her brothers, Frankie, Asbury, Charles and Kenny Black; her daughter-in-law Terri Hopkins; and her great grandchild Aubri Thompson.
She is survived by: her husband John W. Poteat; her children, George J. Thompson, John W. Poteat Jr., Lovella N. Poteat and Robert D. Poteat (Erica Poteat); her siblings, Daniel Black (Mary Ellen), Anna Powers, Margaret Cooper (Wardell), Linda Blake (Alvin), Mary Black-Freeman, Ida Thompson (Melvin), Laverne Black, Archibald Black (Thelma) and Harrie Black; her sister-in-law Ada Black; and her cousin Liza Longshore (Mic). She is also survived by grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
Viewing was held on Friday, February 21st 2025 from 9:00 AM to 10:45 AM at the New City Church (201 Hawthorne Dr, Wilmington, DE 19802). A celebration of life was held on Friday, February 21st 2025 at 11:00 AM at the same location. A burial will be held on Monday, February 24th 2025 at 12:00 PM at the Gracelawn Memorial Park (2220 N Dupont Hwy, New Castle, DE 19720).
