He was predeceased by: his father John Lee Hopkins Sr.; and his siblings, Milton, Lawrence, Robert Hopkins, Audrey Kagney, Ruth White and Katherine Hopkins.
He is survived by: his wife Patsy Hopkins; his children, Peggy Sue Hastings (William), Linda Clarke (Dwayne) and Roy Hopkins (Tracy); his grandchildren, Hilary Fudge (Erick), Jeremy Hastings, Kimberly Puterbaugh (Ryan), Sara Clarke, Bradley Hastings, Owen Hopkins and Quinn Hopkins; and his sister Alice Faye Hopkins. He is also survived by seven great grandchildren.
