He was predeceased by: his parents, Herbert Thesing Koester and Betty Ann Truitt Koester; and his brother Donald Owens Koester. He is survived by: his wife Katherine Bird; his stepdaughters, Pamela Shockley (Michael) and Sandra Gray (Dave); his sister Debbie Brittingham (Jim Gregory); his grandchildren, Brayden, Alyssa, Brielle, Dylan and Carson; his nephews, Robert Brittingham III, Mitchell Brittingham, Dwayne Koester, Kevin Koester, Mark Koester and Aaron Koester; and his great-nieces and great-nephews, Dylan Brittingham, Lizzie Brittingham, Kaegen Brittingham and Masen Brittingham. He is also survived by his grandchildren, nephews, and especially his dogs.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that contributions be made in Douglas Koester's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, P.O. Box 50, Memphis, TN 38101.
