He was predeceased by: his parents, Bernice English Phillips and William Steele Phillips; his brother John E. Phillips; his granddaughter Brianna Ashleigh Wright; and his stepson Robert D. Whitten.
He is survived by: his daughter Rene Phillips Adkins (Patrick); his granddaughters, Kayla Kincaid (Scott) and Tori P. Adkins; his stepchildren, Ralph D. Whitten and Ruthanna W. Lucas (John); his stepgrandchildren, Joseph D. D'Adamo, Neil T. D'Adamo, Kyle R. Whitten and David P. Whitten; his brother Robert William Phillips (Gerry); his close friend Judy Taylor; and his wife Patricia J. Phillips (Willey). He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
