“My condolences to the Mahone family, and to Charlie's many friends and colleagues. Charlie and I shared a Howard University faculty connection where we bonded over our other connection: we're both alumni of the University of Michigan. I retired from Howard in 2015. Charlie went on to become Dean of the School of Business and Public Administration at the University of the District of Columbia and to build those programs, sometimes in friendly competition with Howard. May he rest in peace.”

“My deepest sympathy to all of Charlie's family, friends, & former students. I already miss my friend! We met about 44 or 45 years ago in Atlanta boarding a bus going to a church leader's retreat. We shared many good times. When he relocated we always kept in touch, during holidays, birthdays, his summer adventures, & my trips. I will miss our conversations, often kidding me about being the oldest, now 82. "To live in the hearts we leave behind is not to die", Thomas Campbell-Scottish poet.”
