He is survived by: his spouse Ilse Chapin (Boeckle); his parent Ruth Chapin (Gladding); his children, George Chapin (Jean) of Torrington and Caren Chapin Barker; his grandchildren, Lisa Chapin (Tim Passaro) and Michael Chapin (Shelby Praleikas); and his sister-in-law Lilo Pinkard. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
