He was predeceased by: his son Sean McCarthy; and his former wife Judith Moentmann McCarthy. He is survived by: his wife Madelyn McCarthy; his sons, David McCarthy, Jr. and Kevin McCarthy; his stepchildren, Kim Smith, Holli Smith, Andrew Smith, Lorri Lafontaine and Melinda Valley; his pets, Sadie and Baby; his niece Madelyn; his nephew Mike McCarthy; his siblings, Larry and Susan; and his close friend Ralph Simoneau. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
