Matthew Robert Layman Obituary
Matthew Robert Layman, 40, of Wethersfield, beloved husband, partner and best friend to Stephanie (Krantz) Layman, unexpectedly passed away on Tuesday, September 17, 2024. Matthew was born on January 22, 1984 to Robert Layman and Mary Ellen Kingston in Frankfurt, Germany while his father was serving in the US Military. After decades of working in the trucking and construction field, Matt found his passion in teaching others truck driving. He would beam with pride and joy when his students passed their test and received career updates from past students regularly. This passion led him to a position as a CDL Vocational Instructor for the Department of Corrections. Matt's passion for this job was contagious and his dedication to his students was unmatched.
Matt was a straight shooter who spoke his mind and wasn't afraid to offer a controversial opinion. But whether you agreed with him or not, Matt was the person you counted on to drop everything and help. He held those around him to higher standards and led by example.
Matthew dedicated his life to providing for his family, but in his free time he enjoyed going to the shooting range, working on cars, wood working and playing video games. You could often find him listening to a political podcast or his extensive play list focusing on heavy metal and rock bands. However, Matt's real passion was animals. Matt never met an animal he didn't immediately fall in love with and the animals in the family home always chose him as their "human", including seven cats and two dogs, Mikey & Maggie.
Aside, from his wife Stephanie, Matthew leaves his son, Jayson Layman (17), his stepdaughters, Alex (16) and Sam (13) Testanero, his parents, Robert Layman and Mary Ellen Kingston and his siblings, Stefanie Layman, Melissa Tobias and Tim Layman. He also leaves behind his extended family and countless friends, but his family is comforted that he will be reunited with his childhood best friend, Thomas Lambert (1984 – 2008).
Friends and family may gather on Saturday, September 21, 2024 from 4:00PM to 6:00PM at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Road Wethersfield. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Matthew's name may be made to the Connecticut Humane Society, 701 Russell Road Newington, CT 06111.
