He is survived by: his spouse Candida Amaral; his parent Maria Amaral; his son David Amaral (Kelly) of Glastonbury; and his grandchildren, Samantha, Nathan, Victoria and Papa. He is also survived by husband, father and father-in-law, grandfather and friend.

Memorial donations in John's memory can be made to Our Lady of Fatima Church.
