Robert Edmund McCarthy Obituary
Robert (Bob) Edmund McCarthy, 94, husband of the late Jennie McCarthy for over 68 years, died on April 27, 2024 at his home surrounded by family in Westport. Born in Norwalk, the son of the late Walter and Frances (Costello) McCarthy, he was also predeceased by his two sisters, Jean and Mary, and his brother Walter.
Bob proudly served in the U.S. Navy, aboard the USS Zellars, during the Korean Conflict. He owned a successful plumbing business for over 60 years and was known for his smarts, humor and dedication to his customers. He also enjoyed golf, the beach and Jennie's homemade manicotti. Most of all, he treasured time with family.
He coached baseball and was a member of the Westport VFW, the Knights of Columbus and the Westport Volunteer Fire Department. Bob was also active in the Assumption parish, serving on the Parish Council.
Bob is survived by his four children: Kevin McCarthy (Beth) of Westport; Brian McCarthy (Lena) of Fairfield; Kathy Sabitsky (Stan) of Milford and Brennan McCarthy (Jenny) of Westport. Bob also leaves nine grandchildren: Justin, Sarah, Kaitlin, Josh, Matt, Nick, Zach, Jack and Charlie, one great grandchild (Maeve) and numerous nieces and nephews.
His family will receive friends on Thursday, May 2, from 4-7 PM at the Magner Funeral Home, 12 Mott Avenue, Norwalk. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10AM on Friday, May 3, at Assumption Church, 98 Riverside Avenue, Westport. Burial with full military honors to follow at Willowbrook Cemetery, Westport.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Connecticut Hospice or the Tunnels to Towers Foundation.
