He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Mathai Mathew and Elikutty Mathew; his wife Mariam Varkey Nellikunnel; his children, Vincent George Lilykutty (Ancy Mathirampuzha) and Lisy Mathews (Mathews Kallukalam); his siblings, Kurian (Annamma), Annamma (Chacko), Kuriyappachan (Kunjeli) and Mathai (Mami); and his grandchildren, John, Neena (Lijo), Nimi Thomas, Margaret, Christine, Elizabeth George, Merin Mary and Minu Mathews.
