He was predeceased by: his former wife Margaret "Peggy" McGowan; his parents, George McGowan and Annie McGowan; his siblings, Mary (Lloyd Furze) and Murray McGowan; and his sisters-in-law, Mary McGowan and Catherine McGowan.

He is survived by: his wife Margaret Ann Wahle; his grandchildren, Joe, George Mark McGowan (Chrissy Elizbeth McGowan) of Fairfield, CT, Martha Ann McGowan (David Michaud) of West Hartford, CT, Theresa McGowan of Charleston, SC, Greg McGowan (Ann McGowan) of West Hartford, CT, Joseph McGowan (Meghan McGowan) of Boca Raton, FL, Madeline Ann, Christopher Mark, Greg George McGowan, Olivia Devlin, Riley, Mason McGowan, Tanner, Janey, Quin and Margaret McGowan; his siblings, Don McGowan, Theresa (Duncan Keenan) and Barb (Bill Morrow); and his sister-in-law Claire McGowan. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
