He was predeceased by: his parents, Ture Karlson and Edleberg Karlson (Christianson); and his son Richard Carlson. He is survived by: his daughters, Catherine Zito of Waterford and Debra Ciofi of Niantic; his grandchildren, David Zito, Sharon Dziecinny, Jeffrey Zito, Jayme Carlson, Eric Ciofi and Brian Ciofi; and his wife Winifred. He is also survived by six great grandchildren.
