Sam remained in his own home in Uncasville, CT being cared for by his loving wife of 20 years until his death on December 27, 2020 from Covid 19 Viral Pneumonia.

In 2015 Sam was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease and in 2017 left Florida to return to Connecticut.
