He is survived by: his spouse Ione Gillen (Vanden Heuvel); his parent Mary Gillen (Schimberg); his children, Mary Frances Berstene (Gillen), Stephen Peter Gillen (Karen Sue), Christopher Mark Gillen (Joanne), Anne Marie Hansen (Gillen) and John William Gillen (Susan); and his grandchildren, Elizabeth Gallagher (Berstene), Kathryn Berstene, Matthew Gillen, Andrew Gillen, Rebecca Hansen, Erik Hansen, Amy Sieber (Gillen) and Melissa Billy (Gillen).
