He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Howard and Marguerite Thompson (McLeod); his wife Lorraine; and his siblings, Florence, William, Robert and Thomas.
He is survived by: his children, Melvin J. Thompson, Jr. (Mary) of Waterbury, Peter Thompson (Trish) of Westfield, MA, Sheryl Thompson of Enfield and Sandra Gibeault (David) of Waldorf, MD; his sister Patricia Fahey of Enfield; his grandchildren, Sara, Kristen, Julie, Melissa, Paul, Kyle and Kevin; and his great grandchildren, Caroline and Ingrid. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
