He was predeceased by: his parents, Conrad Upholz and Theresa Upholz; his former wife Elsie Upholz (Pettinari); and his siblings, Theresa, Fred, Kenny and Conrad Upholz of Ohio.
He is survived by: his wife Jeanette Mayo-Upholz; his children, John D. Upholz (Yolanda) and Sandy Dyer; his stepson Brian Mayo (Michelle); his grandchildren, Alicia Amato (Rich), TJ Dyer (Alena) and Cody Dyer; his stepgrandchildren, Marissa and Jake; and his great grandchild Evan Amato. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
Burial with full military honors will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery 197 Greenmanville Ave, Rte 27, Mystic, In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity such as Hospice Care (Hartford Health Care at Home, Norwich Ct), St Jude's Children's Hospital or American Cancer Society.
