He was predeceased by: his parents, Ernest Mellow Sr. and Helen Mellow (Wright); his former wives, Carol (Meringolo) and Elizabeth Mellow (Beth); his siblings, Ernest Jr, David, William, Mary, Eleanor and Olive; and his stepfather Ernest Deuel.
He is survived by: his children, Jay (Sharon) of Stonington and Lisa of Stonington; his grandsons, Jason (Mardi) of Pawcatuck and Michael (Stacey) of North Stonington; and his great grandchildren, Haylee Mellow of Pawcatuck, Bryn, Keira Anderson of North Stonington and Nathan John Mellow of North Stonington. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
