He was predeceased by: his wife Margaret F. Tyler (Peck); his parents, Joseph Tyler and Cora Tyler (Lawton); and his siblings, Richard, William Tyler and Roberta Whitman.

He is survived by: his children, Robert E. Tyler, Jr., Mark Tyler (Michelle Daniels), Cheryl D'Amico and Donna Gates (Gerry). He is also survived by 11 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial donations may be made to the Union Volunteer Fire Department, 1049 Buckley Highway, Union, CT 06076.
