He is survived by: his parents, Michael Lawson (Susan Ryan) and Tracy Goff (Wilson); his father-in-law Aaron; his stepmother Sherry Lawson (Joe Hodge); his siblings, James Lawson, Madilyn Lawson (Migert Peci), Samuel Lawson and Austin Goff; his grandparents, Wayne, Sharon Wilson, Ralph and Maryann Butch; his aunts and uncles, Heather, Joe Cocco, Daniel, Joseline Lawson, Cindy Lawson, Susan Pitz (Drew), Cindy Thomsen (Dan) and Lori-Ann Canny (Brendan); his close friends, Emilio, Danielle, Jason and Marwan; and his pet Bean.

“I was a classmate of Derrick's at SHS and so many of my memories of him are filled with laughter and fondness. He was someone that I felt safe around even though we weren't incredibly close. He was someone that did not engage in bullying others, but moreso making people laugh and relax. Teens often feel awkward and ostracized, but his presence brought light when people felt dark. Even though I hadn't spoken to him in decades, I will never forget Derrick's light.”
