He was loved and cherished by many people including: his spouse Betsey Rouse Bette; his parents, Theresa Bette (Gmuer) and Francis Bette; his sons, Richard F. Bette Jr. and Robert Bette; his grandchildren, Robert F. Bette Jr. (RJ), Avery Rose Bette and Christopher Wilson; and his siblings, Stephen (Marybeth), Paul (Maureen) and Margaret Kanning (Dick).
