She was predeceased by: her husband Richard A. "Dick" Lapenta, Sr.; and her parents, G. Kenneth Quinn and Jane Phillips. She is survived by: her children, Richard A. Lapenta, Jr. (Joan Borek) of South Windsor and Jill Herold (Robert) of Ellington; her grandsons, Kyle Herold (Christiana) and Robert Herold (Kelsey); and her sister Julie Quinn (Michael Golay) of Stonington. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

“Janie (who told me never to call her Sarah) was a sweet old soul, who loved a good sale, had an "eye" for decorating, filled that Orange VW to the gills on more than one occasion; a big ole heart, generous & kind, loved salt a little more than she should have (but we all have our vices). I'm sad but comforted that she's no longer in pain and now hand-in-hand with her beloved husband, Dick and watching over all of us. 'Til we meet again, my friend (but not for a while, okay).”
