He is survived by: his wife Dorothy Dempsey (Allen); his children, Jeff Dempsey (Amy) of Simsbury, James Dempsey III (Amy) of Kennesaw, GA and Geraldine Blum (Ken) of Hinckley, OH; and his grandchildren, Sarah, Mark, Scott, Brian Blum of Hinckley, OH, Anne, Charlotte Dempsey of Kennesaw, GA, William, Madelyn and Amory Dempsey of Simsbury.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
