He was predeceased by: his parents, Blanche Slater (Russ) and Ernest Slater; and his brothers, Larry, Donald and Roland Slater.

He is survived by: his wife Viola Slater (Cone); his children, Norman Jr., Michael (Donna), Tom Slater and Susan Slater; his sister Marilyn Slater; and his grandchildren, Heather, Christine, Norman III, Briana, Sarah, Madison, Chase, Jessica, Nick and Timmy. He is also survived by 7 great-grandchildren.
