He was predeceased by: his wife Elizabeth; his parents, John Hance and Clara Hance (Bailey); his brother Warren Hance; and his son-in-law Chief John Roche.
He is survived by: his children, Patricia Roche of Ridgefield, Michael Hance of Colorado, Mark Hance (Adrienne) of Ridgefield, James Hance (Maureen) of Trumbull and Paul Hance (Betsy) of South Carolina; his grandchildren, Amanda Almstead (Brett), Megan Roche, Michael Roche, Stephen Roche, Elizabeth Van Der (Jeremy), Alex Hance, Spencer Hance, Jennifer Hance, Brian Hance, Sean Hance, Daniel Hance and Emily Hance; and his brothers, Richard Hance and Peter Hance (Maria). He is also survived by four great-grandchildren.
