He was predeceased by: his wife Cathleen (Wickstrom); and his siblings, Clayton, Charles "Bev" and Patricia. He is survived by: his daughter Cyndi; his granddaughters, Karen and Sarah; his brother Ivan; his close friend Jackie; and his pet Princess.

“From Marie Stuart Liebman: My Dad, Ivan, Emerson’s brother was stunned and saddened to have just learned of his brother’s passing last May. He says that Emmy was a wonderful brother, always kind and friendly. I remember my Uncle Emmy being so good to me as a little child on vacation in Lubec. My siblings too all remember him fondly. My Dad and I kept in touch with him in recent years through periodic, long phone chats. My sympathies to his daughter and granddaughters. He will be missed. And forever loved.”
