He was loved and cherished by many people including: his wife Diane Peterson; his friend Bruno Perin; his children, Richard Peterson (Victoria) and Corrine Peterson-Gallagher (David); and his grandchildren, Natalie, Megan Peterson and Ryan Peterson.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to 'The Wounded Warriors' or to St. Jude Children's Hospital.

“My heart felt sympathy’s go out to Diane and Russes entire family. I knew Russ long before Oxford days. I to lived in Oxford. We were always friends even if not seeing each other for years at a time. Russ was always there for me. He picked up my son and myself and took us to a monster truck exhibition in the 1980’s. Also he found out that I needed a special two piece part for my snow blower. Sure enough, he shows up with the parts hand made by him and installs them. This made him special. Love u”
