William C. Stirling Obituary
William C. Stirling, 80, of Norwalk, CT, formerly of Westport, CT, loving husband of Mary Ann (Saponare) Stirling, died on Friday, August 23, 2024 at Norwalk Hospital after several years of living with Dementia & Heart Disease.
Bill, the son of the late William and Margaret (Smith) Stirling, and graduate of Staples High School - Class of 1962, was known for his kindness, easy going personality and his willingness to work hard, plus his sharp wit.
Bill worked as a lineman for Northeast Utilities (CL & P) for over 35 years, sometimes working tirelessly through major storms such as Hurricane Gloria or various Nor Easters that knocked out power. He truly loved his work and made many lifelong friends there. After retirement, he began working part time at the Silvermine Golf Club, a course where more great memories were made. Being able to work outside in the elements energized him - he would not have wished to have it any other way.
He kept busy with all types of projects around the house and in the yard, raking leaves, feeding the birds, gardening or shoveling snow and had lots of fun golfing which he was fortunate to play plenty of in his later years. He built a remarkably happy life for the past 60 years with his high school sweetheart Mary Ann, raising their family with solid values and achieving their version of the American Dream!
Years ago, he volunteered for the Westport Sons of Italy's annual Italian Festival in Saugatuck, setting up lights and power and spent many years helping others in his free time. He was well loved and will be forever missed. His light will never go out.
In addition to his devoted wife Mary Ann, he is survived by their children, William J. "Billy" Stirling, Marybeth Stirling and Kelly Dellinger and her husband Rod, two grandchildren Logan and Reese Dellinger, sister-in-law Theresa Kovacs, brother-in-law Joe Saponare & his wife Lucille, his sister Mary Margaret Stirling and many relatives and dear friends. He was predeceased by his brother John Stirling.
His family will receive friends at 11AM on Wednesday, Aug. 28, with Services to begin at 11:30, at the Magner Funeral Home, 12 Mott Avenue, Norwalk, Connecticut.
