Raymond G. Flewellyn Jr. Obituary
Raymond G. Flewellyn, Jr. 96, died on September 27, 2023 at his home in Norwalk, with his family by his side. He was surrounded by close friends and family during the last months of his life. Born in Danbury, the son of the late Raymond and Rose (Morse) Flewellyn, he was also predeceased by his loving wife Marilyn of 50 years.
A graduate of Norwalk High School in 1945, he was a Naval veteran of World War II, and served from May 4, 1945 to July 23, 1946 on the USS Doyle C. Barnes. He retired as plant manager after 38 years with Stew Leonard's Dairy. A dedicated volunteer at Norwalk Hospital for 18 years and long-time blood donor at the American Red Cross blood drives were something he took great pride in. An avid fan of UCONN girls basketball, he was also a fan of the NY Mets, Giants and Rangers.
He will be remembered as a kind and generous man who always welcomed family and friends with love and laughter; he had no greater joy then being with his family.
A loving and devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather, he is survived by his children, David Flewellyn and his wife Heather of Norwalk, Lori Woods and her husband Wayne of Trumbull, and Scott Flewellyn and his wife Gerri of Norwalk, seven loving grandchildren; David, Meghan, James, Carolyn, Kevin, Jake and Tommy, and four cherished great-grandchildren Hiro, Raelyn, Wesley and Logan, as well as his sister Elaine Mathieson, sister in law Rae Russo and her husband Frank of Jupiter, Florida, and several nieces and nephews.
His family would like to express their gratitude to Nina Basaria for her kindness and care.
His family will receive friends on Monday, October 2, from 4-7 PM at the Magner Funeral Home, 12 Mott Avenue, Norwalk. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10AM on Tuesday, October 3, at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 203 East Avenue, Norwalk, with burial with military honors to follow at St. John Cemetery, 223 Richards Avenue, Norwalk.
