Peter J. Wasencky Obituary

Norwalk native Peter J. "Pete" Wasencky passed away peacefully on September 12, 2024, at the age of 78. He was born on January 25, 1946, to the late Joseph A. and Margaret Azary Wasencky.

Growing up, Pete worked for his dad and Uncle at Wasencky Bros. garage, helping with spring and truck repair for many years. Peter attended Brien McMahon high school in Norwalk, leaving at the age of 17 to join the Navy aboard the U.S.S. Enterprise (CVN-65), the world's first nuclear aircraft carrier, serving during the Vietnam War.

Following honorable discharge from the Navy, while still helping at the garage and continuing his education in plumbing and welding, he joined the Norwalk Police Department, proudly serving for almost 10 years. Pete became a member of the of the Plumbers & Pipefitters Local 777 with years of working on union jobs throughout several states, including jobs in Canada, becoming a Master Pipefitter/Plumber and Welder, all leading to the establishment of Wasencky Plumbing and Heating, Inc. He later became a retired member of local 777 and then was employed as a Plumber with the Norwalk Board of Education before officially retiring in 2011.

He spent time on the Norwalk Shellfish Commission, as a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 72, a member of the St. Ann club and the South Norwalk Boat Club. In his spare time, Pete thoroughly enjoyed clamming, fishing or being out on the boat with family and friends, being up in the tree stand in the fall, waiting for that perfect buck to stroll by or snowmobiling in winter with friends and family in Lake George. Shortly before and during his retirement, he enjoyed many adventures riding his Harley throughout the U.S., traveling with Janet, enjoying Sunday dinners, and getting together with family for the holidays. He loved watching the New York Yankees and supporting his favorite republican.

Pete is survived by his two children Kate Koda and her husband Phil of Stratford and Andrew Wasencky of Norwalk. He is also survived by his loving partner of over 25 years Janet Dobson of Norwalk. "Grampa" was a proud grandfather to his two grandsons Michael and Ryan Koda.

Family and friends may call the Magner Funeral Home, 12 Mott Ave. Norwalk, on Thursday September 26th, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, with a funeral service to be held at 11:45 AM. Interment with full military honors will follow at St. John's cemetery 223 Richards Ave. Norwalk CT.
