Michael DiDio Obituary
Michael DiDio (Big Mike), left us in peace at his home on September 7, 2024 at the age of 96. He was the beloved husband of Phyllis (Nero) DiDio for 70 years. Born in Manhattan, New York, on June 7, 1928, the son of the late Joseph and Angelina (Perulli) DiDio. He was also predeceased by his brother Dominick DiDio and his sister Gloria O'Neil.
Michael graduated from Norwalk High School in 1947. He was part of the State National Guard in Niantic . He retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1990 during which time he served his fellow employees for 25 years as Union President.
In 1996. Mike was Inducted into the Norwalk Old Timers Hall of Fame. He was an outstanding all around athlete. He derived his greatest satisfaction coaching children and young adults in various sports and giving back to the community. One of his greatest accomplishments was co-founding the Norwalk Senior Babe Ruth baseball league. Additionally, he was a life-long YANKEE fan!
In addition to his wife, Phyllis, Michael is survived by his five children, Mary Pat Cholewa (Michael), Michael DiDio, Nina Hyde, Elissa O'Hara (Eddie) and Cathi Wynn. Blessed by 16 loving grandchildren, Jason Cholewa (Ariel), Vinny Cholewa (Ani), Caitlin Brummell (Dallas), Jessy Duncan (Phil), MJ DiDio (Alex), Samantha DiDio, Danny Hyde (Malvina), Mathew Hyde (Alyssa), Alex Hyde (Nicole), Lauren Hyde (Josh), Elle O'Hara, Jacqui O'Hara (Nick), Eddie O'Hara, Natalie Wynn, Michael Wynn (Julia), Wesley Wynn and four cherished great-grandchildren: Dominic, Dante, Tyson and Bailee. Also, survived by family members, Stacey DiDio, Dave Hyde, Steve Annunziato and nieces, nephews and many beloved cousins. He always wanted to win the lottery. But as we told him daily, "we already won"!! His Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10AM on Wednesday, September 11, at St. Matthew Church, 216 Scribner Avenue, Norwalk, with burial to follow at St. John Cemetery, Norwalk.
