Marie Helen Allen Obituary

Marie Helen (Hornyak) Allen, 94, wife of the late William Donald Allen, died on April 1, 2025 at Cambridge Manor in Fairfield. Born in Norwalk, the daughter of the late Joseph and Julia (Palinkas) Hornyak, she was also predeceased by her son William Jeffrey Allen.

A graduate of Sacred Heart Academy in Stamford, CT and the Mills College of Education in New York City, she was a kindergarten teacher at the original Columbus School in Norwalk until she left teaching to raise her family. Marie then embarked on a new career at MBI in Norwalk and Shelton which she enjoyed for many years until she retired.

Marie was also a member of The Norwalk Teachers Association and volunteered for many years at both the St. Matthew's and St. Ladislaus Christmas Fairs.

She enjoyed spending time with friends and family, traveling, reading, knitting and crocheting and visiting the Norwalk Senior Center.

Marie is survived by her daughter Terrie Allen, her sister Julianna Maciejewski and her husband Paul, her nephew Peter Maciejewski and his wife Maria, and niece Julie Maciejewski and her husband Michael Sallette and numerous grand nephews and nieces.

Her family will receive friends on Sunday, April 6 from 3 to 5 PM at the Magner Funeral Home, 12 Mott Ave., Norwalk. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10AM on Monday, at St. Matthew Church, 216 Scribner Ave., Norwalk, with burial to follow at St. John Cemetery, Norwalk. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
