After his service, James joined the family business County Mason Supply and The Deering Company. He then became Sales Manager for Telesco Fuel and Supply then finished his career with Genovese Industries.
For 61 wonderful years, James shared a loving marriage to H. Joyce Deering, his devoted partner and best friend. Together they built a family grounded in love, raising 3 children who were blessed by his unwavering support and guidance. He was a proud and doting grandfather to 7 grandchildren and one great-grandson, whose lives were enriched by his wisdom, warmth and humor.

His grandchildren Chelsea Jacoby Schon and her husband Taylor, Matthew, Joseph and Lauren Deering, Cassidy, Mackenzie and Colin Deering and great-grandson Barrett James Schon. James never missed a game, a school play or anything that involved his children but especially his grandkids. He would beam with pride at each one of them and their accomplishments.
As a young athlete, James excelled in sports. He began his athletic career in the Norwalk National Little League and continued throughout high school playing 3 years of varsity baseball. He also played football and basketball for Norwalk High School. He also earned a tryout with the New York Yankees and Brooklyn Dodgers. James "second" sports career was as a successful golfer, winning the "A" Flight Championship at Oak Hills four times. He was instrumental in organizing the Oak Hills Men's Association 50 years ago, he served as President for many years and served as the Oak Hills Park Commissioner for 8 years.
Above all, James Deering was a wonderful father and role model whose legacy will live on in the hearts of those who were privileged to know him. His life was a testament to hard work, humility and love and he will be deeply missed.
