Edward John Cerulli Obituary
Edward John Cerulli, age 88, husband of Judith Babinski Cerulli, died Saturday June 24, 2023 at home with his wife by his side. He was born in Norwalk on April 4, 1935, the son of the late Oles "Bill" and Rosaria Tripido Cerulli of Norwalk. Ed was a lifelong resident of Norwalk, graduating from Norwalk High School in 1953. He received his bachelor's degree from Fairfield University in 1957. Upon graduation, he taught mathematics at Center Junior High before being drafted into the United States Army. He reported for active duty at Fort Knox, KY, where he was a pitcher for their baseball team. He fulfilled the remainder of his service obligation in the United States Army Reserve and was honorably discharged in 1964.
Ed was a dedicated educator and coach, and has left a lasting impression on so many students and staff. He spent most of his career at Norwalk High School, where he worked as a mathematics teacher and coached the basketball and golf teams. Ed went on to become an Assistant Principal/Housemaster for "B House" until his retirement in 1992.
Ed was also an avid sports fan. After playing baseball in the Army, he joined numerous teams and leagues, including the Anastasia Brothers Bowling Team, and was a lifelong member of the Laurel Athletic Club. He loved spending time outdoors, and was an avid golfer and gardener. Ed was even able to combine his favorite hobbies, and remain active in the Norwalk community during his retirement as a groundskeeper at Oak Hills Park Golf Course. In addition, Ed spent time at the New York Bakery in Norwalk. There he would meet up with friends for coffee in the morning, and the crew became known as "the bakery boys.".
Ed was predeceased by his parents, his brother Ulysses "Hank" Cerulli, and his son Kenneth Cerulli. Hee is survived by his beloved wife Judith; his children Thomas Cerulli (Deirdre), Michael Cerulli, Leigh Ann Matthews (Edward), and Robert Cerulli (Lisa); his grandchildren Anna Cerulli, Christopher Cerulli, Michael Cerulli, Katelyn Cerulli, and Lauren Matthews; and many loving extended family members.
Ed was a devout member of the Catholic community at St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Norwalk. He spent his life in service to others, selflessly giving his love and wisdom to his family, his country, and countless members of the community he called home. Ed had many passions in his lifetime, however he was most passionate about his family.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the nurses, doctors, and home aides at Norwalk Hospital, Constellation Hospice, and Angel's Care Agency for their support and loving care.
Ed's family will receive friends on Thursday, June 29th from 4-7 PM at Magner Funeral Home, 12 Mott Avenue, Norwalk CT. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM on Friday, June 30th at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 203 East Ave, Norwalk, with burial to follow at St. John Cemetery.
